Police have seized more than three million dollars’ worth of cocaine following a late-night vehicle interception in Freeport.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service says officers intercepted a silver Nissan B15 along Roopsingh Road and Joyce Road South around midnight on Thursday during a coordinated anti-crime exercise.
Police say the driver stopped abruptly and one male occupant fled into nearby bushes, escaping despite an extensive search by officers from the Chaguanas CID, Couva CID and Central Division Task Force.
A search of the vehicle uncovered three bags containing 72 individually wrapped packages of cocaine.
The drugs weighed a total of 77-point-81 kilogrammes and have an estimated street value of 3-point-1 million dollars.
Police also found a wallet with identification and official documents, providing strong leads into the suspect’s identity.
Investigations are continuing.
