Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen says there is the need to restore full autonomy to local government bodies.
This, she said will allow regional corporations to properly perform their duties under law, including those that were previously undertaken by CEPEP and URP.
Speaking at today’s post-Cabinet briefing, she criticized the former PNM administration for using URP and CEPEP to undermine regional corporations.
As for what’s next after the dissolution of the former programmes, Minister Ameen reiterated the Finance Minister’s budget announcement of a 100-million-dollar fund for various initiatives across several Ministries.
She added that these include the national recruitment drive and other new programmes to support unskilled labour and community development.
