Today, Tobagonians head to the polls to elect a new THA.
In the last poll held in 2021, the PDP led by Watson Duke won 14 of the 15 seats.
Since then there has been a fracturing of that membership, leading to the emergency of Farley Augustine and the TPP.
According to the Elections and Boundaries Commission, this poll is being contested by 42 candidates: 15 each from the PNM and TPP, 11 from the IDA, and one from the UTP.
Meanwhile the TTPS says officers are fully deployed across the island to ensure public safety and the integrity of the electoral process.
It also warns that any form of violence, intimidation, or disorderly behaviour will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
This assurance comes in the wake of fights and confrontations in Tobago ahead of the election.
Videos have been circulating online and the TTPS says it is aware of those reports.
103.1FM will have updates from Shivanna Samlal, who is in Tobago to cover the day’s events.
