Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is urging citizens to be on guard against misinformation, after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio rejected a CNN report claiming the UK had halted intelligence sharing over America’s regional anti-drug operations.
In a statement on X, the Prime Minister said the report — repeated by some local outlets — was a “blatant attempt” to undermine joint efforts to combat narco-trafficking and organised crime.
The British High Commission declined to comment on intelligence matters but reaffirmed the UK’s strong security partnership with the US.
Persad-Bissessar said T&T’s collaboration with US authorities is strengthening as Washington intensifies regional operations, including a series of recent strikes on suspected drug-running vessels.
She added that her government remains committed to reinforcing national security as the region confronts escalating cartel activity.
