Multiple arrests during exercises in south-west, south-east Trinidad

Three persons were held as police seized guns and ammunition during “Operation Chopper”.

Conducted between 10am and 10pm on Sunday, this exercise saw the execution of targeted operations in the Point Fortin and Guapo districts.

Two persons were held as officers seized one shotgun and seven 12-gauge cartridges, while another was taken into custody after they found two rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Meanwhile two persons were held during an exercise executed under the Emergency Powers Regulations in Mayaro yesterday morning.

The 28-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were held after they were found in possession of a homemade shotgun, 50 live rounds and six spent rounds of 12-gauge cartridges.

Neither suspect possessed a valid Firearm User’s Licence.

Operations were also extended to the Ortoire Fishing Port, where a comprehensive search led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing 162 grams of compressed cannabis.
