Guyana’s incoming Opposition Leader indicted in the US

Guyana businessmen Azruddin Mohammed and his father, Nazar, have been indicted in a Florida Court on 11 charges, including wire fraud, gold smuggling, and money laundering.

News Room Guyana reports that the case was filed in the US District court for the Southern District of Florida.

Each charge carries a potential maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonments.

US Undersecretary for the Treasury, Brian E. Nelson said the development holds accountable those who seek to exploit Guyana’s underdeveloped gold sector for personal gain.
