Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her Government remains firmly committed to public safety, describing crime reduction as a sustained national priority rather than a temporary initiative.

In a series of statements, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that her administration has acted decisively on its pledge to confront violent crime, noting that by midnight the national murder rate will be down by 42 per cent — the largest decline in Trinidad and Tobago’s history and one of the most significant reductions recorded globally this year.

She credited the progress to the disciplined and coordinated efforts of the national security leadership, extending sincere thanks to Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, Attorney General John Jeremie, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge, and Minister of Justice Devesh Maharaj.

According to the Prime Minister, the reduction in murders and serious crime has been supported by strengthened intelligence-led policing, expanded joint operations, and closer collaboration among local law enforcement agencies.

She also highlighted enhanced international cooperation, particularly with the United States, aimed at dismantling transnational criminal networks. These partnerships have focused on intelligence sharing, maritime cooperation, and coordinated enforcement actions to intercept illegal firearms, disrupt narcotics trafficking, and secure the nation’s borders by land, sea, and air.

“This is not a temporary focus. It is a sustained national effort,” the Prime Minister stated, adding that Trinidad and Tobago will not be allowed to become a corridor for criminal enterprise.

Looking ahead to 2026, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar said the Government will continue to apply relentless pressure on gangs, illegal firearms, and narcotics traffickers, while further strengthening international alliances and intelligence-driven strategies.

She emphasized that the ultimate goal remains ensuring safety, stability, and peace for all citizens — a commitment her administration says it is determined to uphold.Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her Government remains firmly committed to public safety, describing crime reduction as a sustained national priority rather than a temporary initiative.
