Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has told the United Nations General Assembly that Trinidad and Tobago remains firmly committed to fighting regional crime and violence.
She warned that criminal syndicates are abusing legal loopholes, threatening to destabilize economies and undermine development, not just in T&T, but across the Caribbean.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar reiterated her support for a strong U.S. presence in the region to curb the influence of powerful drug cartels, saying unless forceful and aggressive action is taken, gangs could soon replace legitimate governments.
Calling for nations to “fight fire with fire—with the law,” she highlighted the urgent need for coordinated efforts to tackle illegal immigration, organized crime, and transnational threats.
