A 65-year-old woman was shot and killed near a doubles stand in Cunupia this morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 8am, as a dispute unfolded over a parking spot.
Several men allegedly pulled out knives and challenged another man, who had a licensed firearm.
The officer reportedly fired at the men but hit Susan St Louis – said to be his mother – who later died at hospital.
The knife wielding men escaped.
Several items of evidential value were seized, including a Glock pistol.
