A retired prisons officer has secured a High Court victory after challenging the Public Service Commission’s decision not to promote him.
In a ruling on February 18th, Justice Robin Mohammed ordered the Commission to reconsider Rajkumar Ramroop’s eligibility for promotion to Prisons Supervisor.
The court found breaches of natural justice and Ramroop’s constitutional right to equal treatment after he was deemed ineligible following his 2019 retirement.
While the judge stopped short of ordering the promotion, Ramroop was awarded 50 thousand dollars in compensation.
