A Charlieville woman has been hit with charges after writing bad cheques to buy items, including fete tickets.
Between January 23rd and 24th 2025, the woman purchased two packages valued at $34,500 and 15 tickets for a Carnival event valued at $11,000.
She paid with two cheques, which later returned dishonoured since the account had been closed since 2021.
Several attempts to have the woman honour the payment proved futile and a report was subsequently made to the police.
Satie Samaroo was arrested and charged with two counts of Obtaining Goods by False Pretences.
She appeared yesterday before Master Delicia Bethelmy in the San Fernando High Court and was granted $10,000 bail.
A status hearing is now set for June 24th 2026.
The Fraud Squad is reminding business owners and vendors to verify the authenticity of cheques with their bankers before parting with their goods, or to consider switching to electronic forms of payment, if the person writing the cheque is not known to them or not a regular customer.
