Former Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner has welcomed the government’s decision to double traffic fines, describing it as a necessary step to curb lawlessness and reduce road deaths.
However, he has warned that road safety efforts must go beyond motorists, pointing to rising jaywalking and distracted pedestrians as major concerns.
In a letter to Transport Minister Eli Zakour, Warner also questioned whether government vehicles are being held to the same roadworthiness standards as private cars.
He called for transparency, equal enforcement, and stronger public education to restore confidence in road safety measures.
