The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus will host the 19th UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon & 5K on Sunday, October 26, 2025, with this year’s event dedicated to raising awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

In partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Alzheimer’s Association (AzATT), participants will run to champion Alzheimer’s awareness, highlighting the growing concern of dementia in the nation.

According to a recent UWI study, nearly one in four Trinbagonians over the age of 70 are affected by Alzheimer’s, a disease ranked by the World Health Organization as the seventh leading cause of death globally.

The half-marathon begins at 5 a.m., covering the route from UWI SPEC along the Priority Bus Route to La Resource Junction, D’Abadie, and back.

The 5K starts at 5:15 a.m., running to Macoya Junction and returning to the campus. Both races start and finish at the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre.
