The US says China has approved a transfer agreement for TikTok, following a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping earlier today.

According to Al Jazeera News, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the deal should move forward in the coming weeks, however no further details have been provided.

China’s Commerce Ministry said it will work with the US to properly address issues related to TikTok, while the app’s owner, ByteDance, yet to comment.

In 2024 US Congress passed a law requiring TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell its US assets by January 2025, aimed to meet national security concerns, with the app’s algorithm to be monitored by a U.S. security team.
