There were celebrations late into the night in Tobago, as the TPP led by Farley Augustine claimed a 15 – 0 lockout of the Tobago House of Assembly.
The preliminary results reportedly have the PNM losing its lone seat in Darryl Spring/Whim.
Speaking in the midst of victory, Mr Augustine said his executive will work for all Tobagonians, regardless of political allegiance.
Meanwhile PNM Tobago Council Leader, Ancil Dennis, has announced his intention to step down from the role.
Speaking as he conceded defeat last night, Mr Dennis said the time had come to usher in new leadership.
He assured that the PNM will continue to seek the interest of Tobagonians, despite being unable to motivate persons to vote in its favour.
The Elections and Boundaries Commission is yet to issue the final results, and Mr Dennis has also indicated a possible request for a recount at Darryl Spring/Whim.
Reactions to the results have also come from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar congratulated Mr Augustine and the TPP, saying her Government looks forward to continued cooperation and constructive engagement with the THA.
Congratulations came as well from Ms Beckles, who also thanked those offering themselves as candidates for the PNM.
However, she noted what she said was a low voter turnout, saying it speaks to the level of public satisfaction.
She added that the PNM understands the necessity of reflection as they work toward rebuilding the party and regaining the trust and confidence of the people.
