For the first time, the Division of Youth Empowerment and Sport (DYES) has provided financial grants to Tobago-based athletes and officials selected for the 53rd CARIFTA Games in Grenada.
The grants were presented on April 1, 2026, during a briefing at the Division’s Head Office in Glen Road, Scarborough.
The Tobago House of Assembly approved $3,000 each for 16 athletes and three officials to assist with travel, training, and competition costs.
Secretary of Youth Empowerment and Sport, Keigon Denoon, said the funding reflects a commitment to nurturing Tobago’s talent and ensuring young athletes have the resources to compete confidently on an international stage.
Technical Director of Sport, Sean Aberdeen, encouraged participants to stay focused, disciplined, and supportive of one another as they carry the pride of Tobago and Trinidad and Tobago into competition.
The CARIFTA Games are set for April 4–6, 2026, at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.
This initiative underscores DYES’s dedication to advancing elite athlete development in Tobago.
