South Africa registered a crushing nine-wicket victory over the West Indies in the 1st T20I at Paarl a short while ago.
Chasing 174 for victory, Proteas skipper Aiden Markram hit 86 not out to pace his team to victory with 13 balls to spare.
Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer’s 48 off 32 balls nursed the West Indies to 173 for 7 with George Linde taking three wickets for South Africa.
Stand-in West Indies captain Roston Chase said that South Africa restricted team to a below-par total.
“We wanted to get 190 initially, we didn’t have big partnerships. Then we were poor in the powerplay with the ball and they knocked it around with ease,” he said.
“It’s up to the batters to take their innings deep. You have to take calculated risks. We had soft dismissals,” Chase added.
The second T20I is on Thursday at Centurion.
