The Ministry of the People, Social Development, and Family Services has commended and expressed its full support for the Prime Minister’s participation in the Shield of the Americas Summit in the USA last weekend.

Minister Vandana Mohit and Senator Dr Natalie Chaitan-Maharaj stated that the summit highlighted Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and collaborating with international allies on key issues.

A media release from the Ministry also said the Prime Minister’s participation underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation of issues of mutual importance.

“The composition of the participating delegations reflects the significance of the initiative to the United States and highlights a strong focus not only on the security of the hemisphere but also on expanding economic collaboration among partner nations,” the release stated.

“The Summit provided an important platform for advancing dialogue on trade, commerce, energy, and broader economic opportunities, while recognising that sustainable economic progress is closely linked to a stable and secure regional environment.”

In addition, participation in the Summit also created “a valuable opportunity to deepen regional and international dialogue on issues that directly impact the well-being and security of citizens across the hemisphere, including human security, migration, and the strengthening of social protection systems.”
