Senate President Wade Mark has dismissed motions to have Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar referred to the Privileges Committee over statements made about Independent Senators.

The motions were filed by Independent Senator Anthony Viera and Opposition Senator Dr Amery Browne, following the defeat of debate on the Zones of Special Operations Bill.

The complaints stemmed from comments made by the Prime Minister last month, in which she criticised Independent Senators and questioned their appointments.

However, the Senate President ruled against the move.

Mr Mark said after studying both submissions, neither met the threshold to be raised as a matter of privilege.
