Port of Spain South MP Keith Scotland has acknowledged growing public unease following the arrival of the United States Navy vessel, USS Gravely, which docked in Port of Spain on Sunday.

Speaking on the matter, Scotland said that while he would defer to the Leader of the Opposition for official comment, many residents in his constituency have expressed discomfort about the visit.

“All I would say is that there is a general feeling of unease,” Scotland told the Trinidad Express.

“In the areas that I know, I can tell you that there is a general feeling of unease in particular in some of the activities happening right in Port of Spain South where my constituents reside.”

He added that the situation was not “ordinary” and said he and others would continue to closely monitor developments related to the vessel’s presence.
