Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has described the simultaneous observance of Lent and Ramadan 2026 as a moment of deep spiritual significance for Trinidad and Tobago, highlighting it as a powerful reflection of the nation’s religious diversity and shared values.

In a national message, the Prime Minister said that although Lent and Ramadan are observed through different faith traditions, both seasons encourage reflection, discipline, compassion, charity, justice, and renewed devotion to God and to one another. She explained that for Christians, Lent represents a forty-day period of prayer, fasting, sacrifice, and repentance leading up to Easter, while for Muslims, Ramadan is a sacred time of fasting, prayer, and charity aimed at strengthening faith and devotion.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar emphasized that true fasting goes beyond abstinence, calling it a process of inner transformation that strengthens conscience, extends kindness, and uplifts the vulnerable, helping to build stronger families, communities, and a better nation.

The Prime Minister also noted that prayers offered in churches and mosques across generations have guided the country through times of challenge and uncertainty. She assured citizens that all relevant protective forces and national security agencies have been directed to put measures in place to ensure that worshippers can practise their faith safely, freely, and peacefully during services, nightly prayers, and community observances nationwide.

She concluded by extending Lenten blessings to the Christian community and Ramadan greetings to the Muslim Ummah, urging all citizens to choose unity over division and compassion over discord during this shared sacred season.
