Police commissioner Allister Guevarro says a murder and two shooting incidents reported during the Carnival weekend were not related to the festivities.
Two persons were wounded in a shooting incident while a man was stabbed to death.
Commissioner Guevarro said at the time there was not link between the events and Carnival activities.
“Initial reports indicate that they are more likely spill-over from gang-related, retaliatory violence. The TTPS will continue to pursue all leads and maintain heightened operational pressure on the individuals and groups responsible for these acts,” he said.
Commissioner Guevarro also reported a rise in teenagers being intoxicated.
“Some (were) brought to police stations unconscious, and others behaving disorderly. In one instance, two of them locked themselves in a portable toilet and began to cry,” he said.
“This is deeply concerning as Carnival is a time of celebration. But our young people must be protected, supervised and guided,” the Commissioner added.
