Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has dismissed concerns over Venezuela’s proposed suspension of gas agreements, declaring it “of no concern” to Trinidad and Tobago.

In a direct response to 103.1FM News this afternoon, she emphasized that the country’s future does not depend on Venezuela and is not vulnerable to any political blackmail.

The Prime Minister reiterated that the Government had no energy discussions with Venezuela and remains focused on growing the economy, both in energy and non-energy sectors, criticizing the former Government for over-relying on the Dragon gas project.

She also stated that joint military exercises with the US are solely for internal security, vowing that no external pressure, including from Venezuela or CARICOM, will stop the Government’s fight against drug cartels and gang violence.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar stressed that citizens’ safety and well-being are her top priorities.
