Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar met on Monday with senior leadership of the United States Southern Command to reinforce Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to national and regional security and the fight against narco-trafficking.
The meeting, held at the invitation of the US Government, focused on enhancing technical cooperation in cybersecurity, forensics, and ballistics, aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to combat criminal elements.
“I made it clear at today’s meeting that my greatest priority was to ensure the protection of my citizens as I called for further partnerships/technical cooperation on Cyber security, forensics and ballistic to ensure an effective fight against criminal elements in Trinidad and Tobago,” the Prime Minister stated in a social media post.
“I am heartened not only by the commitment of Southern Command’s commitment to broadening the scope of work to ensure a safer region but the fact that several specific projects were identified for implementation to support Trinidad and Tobago’s security.”
Mrs Persad-Bissessar said General Francis L. Donovan, Commander of Southern Command, expressed appreciation for T&T’s leadership in the region and recognized the significant impact of the nation’s efforts in curbing the illegal drug trade.
