Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar met with U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, on Tuesday at the Diplomatic Centre, reaffirming Trinidad and Tobago’s strong ties with the United States.
The Prime Minister emphasized her government’s commitment to combating narco-trafficking, human trafficking, and transnational crime to safeguard citizens and the wider Caribbean.
She also expressed gratitude for decades of cooperation and diplomacy between the two nations.
General Caine acknowledged Trinidad and Tobago’s leadership in regional security, praising ongoing efforts to build a safer, more secure Caribbean through strategic collaboration.
After the meeting, General Caine enjoyed some local cuisine—he had doubles with the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Attorney General John Jeremie, Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander, Defence Minister Wayne Sturge, and Minister of Public Utilities, Barry Padarath.
General Caine is the USA’s highest ranking military officer and the principal military advisor to the President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council.
Prior to becoming Chairman on April 11, 2025, General Caine was the Associate Director for Military Affairs at Central Intelligence Agency.
He has served in a wide range of operational, staff and joint assignments, primarily as an F-16 fighter pilot, weapons officer, member of the White House staff and special operations officer.
