Red House Parliament

The Lower House will debate a motion today to extend the State of Emergency for another three months.

Attorney General John Jeremie will pilot the motion, which follows a request from Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar confirmed earlier this week that the Government intends to act on that request.

If approved, the extension would bring the SOE’s total duration to six months since its initial proclamation by President Christine Kangaloo in July.

The debate begins at 1:30 p.m. in the House of Representatives.
