Workplace accidents in T&T are on the decline, according to data from the Occupational Safety and Health Authority and Agency.
Between October 2023 and September 2024, nearly 900 accident investigations were conducted.
While the full fiscal year for 2024–2025 is not yet complete, data from October 2024 to June 2025 shows that OSHA recorded 1,005 accidents of which 48 were critical accidents, continuing this downward trend.
The leading cause of injury was reported as “slips, trips and falls”, responsible for 343 incidents, or 24% of all reported cases.
Injury type was led by wounds and superficial injuries, accounting for 59% of all reports, followed by bone fractures and sprains.
The health sector recorded the most incidents, followed by retail and manufacturing, but experts warn the numbers may not reflect the full picture, especially in under-reported sectors like agriculture.
