Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson is calling on citizens to embrace reflection, renewal and service as the Lenten season begins.

In her Ash Wednesday message, she urged Trinidad and Tobago, including the diaspora, to prioritise love, justice and compassion.

“Dear fellow citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, both at home and across the diaspora, as we enter the holy season of Lent, we are called to enter into a time of reflection, conversion, and renewal. Lent invites us to center our lives on God, to examine our hearts, and to live in a way that prioritizes love, justice and service to others,” Mrs Beckles-Robinson wrote.

“Ash Wednesday reminds us of our mortality and the importance of sincere repentance. It is a time when we are encouraged to listen more deeply, fast with purpose, give with love, and commit ourselves to actions that uplift others,” she added.

Quoting scripture and referencing Pope Leo XIV, she encouraged citizens to reject harmful speech and division, and instead promote hope, peace and unity.

“Let us begin by disarming our language… words of hatred will give way to words of hope and peace,” the Opposition Leader quoted.

Beckles-Robinson also extended best wishes for a spiritually fulfilling Lenten season.

“As Christians across the nation and abroad begin this sacred journey of Lent, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a spiritually fruitful season to all, and especially to members of the Catholic community, as you embrace this time of reflection, prayer, fasting and renewal,” she said.
