Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson has criticized the Prime Minister for ignoring the “collapse” of the health care system and failing to engage with health care workers.

She said that hospitals in Trinidad and Tobago are understaffed, with citizens facing long delays and mounting pressure, while nurses are reporting delayed wages and poor working conditions.

“The Prime Minister seems to believe that hiding her head in the sand and adopting a dismissive attitude will make the healthcare disaster her government has created disappear. This approach is baffling, as she should know better than to dismiss, disrespect, and push healthcare workers to their limits,” Mrs Beckles-Robinson said.

The Opposition Leader accused the government of downplaying the crisis and prioritizing politics over the health and safety of citizens.

“It is clear that the Government is downplaying the scale of the crisis, attempting to keep the population in the dark about the full extent of the collapse under her watch. This blatant misrepresentation of the facts shows the Prime Minister prioritizes politics above the health of our citizens,” she said.

Mrs Beckles-Robinson is calling for accountability, and a clear national plan to resolve the crisis.

“The Prime Minister must immediately account for the Government’s inaction, address the concerns of healthcare workers, and provide the country with a clear pathway out of this crisis.”
