Residents of Louis Dโor are celebrating a promise kept โ their recreation ground now shines bright under a brand-new $4 million high-mast LED lighting system.
Commissioned on Wednesday, the project is part of the THAโs Sports Facilities Rehabilitation Programme, designed to boost community life and promote healthier living.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine hailed the initiative as a symbol of progress for small communities, while Area Representative Watson Duke and other THA officials urged residents to take pride in the facility and use it responsibly.
โThe reason why this is important is because we want to foster a sense of community for our people, whether you live in a small area, or a larger one like some of those in the west. The idea is with the addition of these lights, we also have to opportunity to drive people to lead healthier lives and health is wealth,โ Mr Augustine said.
The lights, with a lifespan of nearly 20 years, mean longer playtime, safer evenings, and new opportunities for sport and social activity in Louis Dโor, Betsyโs Hope, and Delaford.
