The Department of Marine Resources is investigating reports of dead fish near the Coco Reef Resort in Tobago.

A video of showing the fish was shared online yesterday.

In a statement, the THA’s Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development says the fish affected appear to be juvenile, with assessments underway to determine the cause of this occurrence.

In the interim, it is asking persons to avoid swimming at Coco Reef Beach until cleanup is completed and for one day thereafter, to avoid collecting or consuming any dead fish found in the area, and to avoid fishing in the immediate affected area during the ongoing investigation.

It adds that while dead fish may be collected and buried to help manage odour and environmental impact, this should be handled with caution.
