The Ministry of Health & Wellness of Jamaica launched the National Strategic Plan for HIV last week, aiming to cut new infections by 40 percent and promote safe, healthy lifestyles.

State Minister Krystal Lee urged renewed efforts to support those living with HIV with dignity and access to care.

In 2024, over 1,100 Jamaicans contracted HIV, with one in four cases among young people aged 15 to 24.

Jamaica is now among four Caribbean countries driving 90 percent of new infections. Of the 28,000 living with HIV, just 14,000 are virally suppressed.

UNAIDS has praised Jamaica’s leadership and partnerships as key to ending AIDS as a public-health threat by 2030.
