The Inter-Religious Organization has called for “spiritual growth” in the nation.

It came during an event held at the Divali Nagar yesterday for the national day of prayer and reflection.

Held under the theme “One Nation United in Prayer”, the event saw contributions from the leaders of various faiths.

In addition to praying for peace in the country and region, there were also prayers for guidance, both or T&T’s leaders and its population.

There were also calls for unity to face the country’s challenges.

The National Day of Prayer and Reflection was meant to replace traditional Independence Day celebrations which were cancelled by the Government.

Some have since noted however that the IRO’s event was not attended by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, despite an invitation reportedly being extended.

Also, despite the cancellation of traditional activities this year for Independence, a number of other events were held across the country.

These included a noiseless fireworks display at Eddie Hart hosted by the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation, as well as celebrations held by the San Fernando and Port of Spain city corporations.
