Former Finance Minister Colm Imbert has accused the media of giving the UNC a “free pass”, after recent downgrades to the country’s credit rating outlook.
In a post via X, Mr Imbert said if the PNM were in power, the media and other experts would have predicted an economic collapse.
In its latest ratings, both Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s changed the country’s outlook from Stable to Negative.
On December 12th, Moody’s maintained T&T’s Ba2 rating, citing strong fiscal buffers like the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund and expectations of positive oil and gas production by 2027.
However, the outlook was downgraded due to short-term risks, including a decline in the Central Bank’s foreign exchange reserves.
