Musician and composer Mungal Patasar will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies.
He will be bestowed a Doctor of Letters, for his contributions to and achievements to the arts, during the UWI’s St. Augustine Campus graduation ceremony in October.
His contributions have earned him numerous awards for his work in the preservation and promotion of Indian Culture in T&T and across the Caribbean.
This includes the Hummingbird Gold Medal in 1994 and international recognition from the Indian High Commission in 2016.
Mr Patasar is one of 11 persons who will be bestowed the honorary title by UWI this year.
The three other local honourees named for honorary degrees are Professor Niranjan Kissoon, Professor Gene Morse and Nigel L. Romano.
