The Ministry of Health has moved to clarify the official name of the Couva Children’s Hospital following what it described as a misleading headline published by the Trinidad Express Newspapers.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry addressed the article titled “The Couva Hospital Has No Name,” saying the claim is incorrect.
According to the Ministry, Cabinet approved reverting the facility to its original name, Couva Children’s Hospital, in 2025. Officials said this information had been provided to the reporter prior to publication.
The Ministry also noted that signage bearing the name Couva Children’s Hospital has already been installed at the front of the building.
Additionally, a larger external sign is currently in the procurement process and is expected to be installed in the near future.
The Couva Children’s Hospital, located in Couva, has been the subject of public discussion for several years regarding its operational status and administrative oversight.
In its statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accurate information is shared with the public and encouraged media houses to reflect verified information in their reporting.
Officials added that maintaining clear and accurate public communication remains a priority for the health sector.
