Guyana’s President Dr Irfaan Ali has announced bold new steps to ensure indigenous athletes are fully included in national sports, specifically cricket, football, and volleyball.

A Guyana Chronicle report said the comments came during the 2025 Heritage Games,.

Noting that indigenous talent has long been overlooked, the President said it is the time they get equal opportunities to represent Guyana.

The Guyana Cricket Board has been directed to include an indigenous team in national trials, with Ramnaresh Sarwan appointed as coach for the indigenous talent.

Similar mandates have been given to the Football Association and Volleyball Federation.
