The government has paid over $1.5 million in outstanding gratuity and severance to former staff of St Jude’s School for Girls.

The funds cover the period May 9, 2019 to May 8, 2023, benefiting 35 former staff members.

Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, Vandana Mohit, handed over the funds at the Ministry’s Head Office, with Mr Deoraj Sookdeo receiving on behalf of the school.

The Ministry noted that St Jude’s continues to receive a $13 million annual subvention, as well as training and capacity-building programs for caregivers to strengthen child protection services.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to ensure equity, accountability and fair treatment of workers, particularly in institutions serving vulnerable children.
