Energy Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal says talks are ongoing with Nutrien Trinidad to resolve port access issues.

This comes after Nutrien announced a controlled shutdown of its Point Lisas operations, starting October 23rd, citing access restrictions and ongoing gas supply challenges.

Dr. Moonilal confirmed the discussions after Nutrien faced port restrictions linked to retroactive fees.

Despite the shutdown, Nutrien said expects to meet its 2025 nitrogen sales targets, due to its strong North American operations.

Meanwhile, the Energy Chamber has called for  swift action to protect jobs and investment, while former Energy Minister Stuart Young alluded to poor leadership for the situation.

Meanwhile, the American Chamber of T&T has called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a stable and competitive investment environment.

AMCHAMTT said it is confident that all parties involved will work towards and timely and mutually beneficial resolution to the issue.
