The whale shark that was found dead last night has been moved into deeper waters for natural decay, to protect the shoreline and the public from the decomposing carcass.

This was confirmed by Dr Farahnaza Solomon of the Institute of Marine Affair and veterinarian Dr Wade Suekeran of the Trinidad and Tobago Marine Mammal Stranding Network.

Speaking with 103.1FM News this afternoon, both confirmed the Coast Guard assisted in towing the fish out to sea, which occurred around midday today.

Dr Solomon said the carcass was observed dead under the jetty at the Copa Cabana Hotel in Chaguaramas last evening and upon investigation this morning, they realized it was already in a state of decomposition.

The distressed whale shark was first spotted over the weekend, close to shore at Peake’s Marina in Chaguaramas.
