Guyana’s Election Commission has announced a ban on cell-phone use within polling stations during the upcoming September 1st General and Regional Elections.
This is aimed at addressing existing concerns related to the possible vote selling, which is directly linked to photographing of ballots.
It added that it will collaborate with the Guyana Police Force to catch any electoral fraud committed.
According to Guyana’s Department of Information, the Commission listed penalties for offenders found guilty of selling their votes including a fine of G$65,000 or/and imprisonment for a term of 6 months.
