Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says dogs can be used as a first line of defence to protect one’s home and family.

The Minister was replying to a question posed by Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal, which asked if the stand your ground legislation would cover the question of dangerous dogs.

Minister Alexander was fielding questions during a Stand Your Ground law public consultation in the Oropouche East constituency last evening.

Senator Anil Roberts posed a question to the Minister about intruders who may want to poison dogs in order to gain access to one’s home.

He asked for consideration to be given to address this matter in the legislation.

Meanwhile, Senator Darrell Allahar reminded citizens that this law is not merely about having or drawing a firearm but it is for the use of reasonable force to protect oneself from criminals.
