Attorney General John Jeremie has called for the Zones of Special Operations Bill to be passed quickly like other emergency laws and reviewed afterwards to assess effectiveness and fix deficiencies.
During his wind-up to debate on the Bill, he committed to a post-passage review and engagement process, including consultation with Independent Senators.
Mr Jeremie said the urgency of the moment requires the Bill to be passed immediately, meaning amendments cannot be accepted now.
He said dialogue and refinement can continue after it becomes law.
