A dramatic police operation in the North Central Division on Friday morning has led to the seizure of over 108 kilograms of high-grade Colombian cannabis—valued at approximately TT$11.9 million—following a high-speed chase that ended in the Trincity Mall carpark.
The joint exercise, conducted between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025, was an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Task Force (NDTF) South, working in collaboration with a Specialist Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Maynard-Wilson, Supt. McKenzie, and ASP Pitt, and led on the ground by Insp. Gadar and Ag. Sgt. Foster, under the direct supervision of PC Persad.
According to police reports, around 8:30 a.m., officers received intelligence from the Specialist Unit about a cream-coloured Nissan Almera suspected of transporting firearms and narcotics along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway. Acting swiftly, the team proceeded toward Trincity and soon spotted the vehicle.
As officers moved in, the driver—who is known to police—allegedly became aware of their presence, broke a red light at the Trincity intersection, and sped off in the direction of Trincity Mall. A brief but intense pursuit followed.
Upon reaching the mall, the suspect reportedly abandoned the car in the carpark and fled on foot into the mall, managing to evade capture.
When officers searched the vehicle, they uncovered five bales containing 179 packets of “Creepy” cannabis, a potent strain of Colombian marijuana, with a total weight of 108.89 kilograms.
The vehicle and narcotics were seized and taken to the San Rafael Police Station, where Crime Scene Investigators processed the evidence.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and the arrest of the suspect is imminent.
This latest bust underscores the TTPS’s continued crackdown on transnational drug trafficking and the smuggling networks operating across Trinidad and Tobago.
