In its sharp response to the 2026 National Budget, the Patriotic Front says what Trinidad and Tobago got was “change in words, not in reality.”
Party leader Mikaela Panday warns that while the Budget promises fairness and growth, it’s built on heavy borrowing, energy dependence, and one-off windfalls—not long-term reform.
She pointed to, what she calls “overly optimistic” oil and gas projections, $9.4 billion in new foreign debt, and rising taxes and fees that will raise the cost of living and doing business.
The Patriotic Front says citizens are again being asked to carry the burden of political mismanagement, while the powerful remain protected.
Ms Panday said Trinidad and Tobago doesn’t need more taxation and borrowing—it needs a government ready to build a real economy.
