Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has claimed that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is being “led off a cliff” by US Secretary Marco Rubio.
She went on to accuse Mr Rubio of selling Trinidad “pipe-dreams”.
Ms Rodriguez, who also serves as Energy Minister, made the comments at the Venezuela Productiva 2030 economic forum, where she warned that T&T would have to pay for any natural gas exported from Venezuela.
In criticizing the recent OFAC license granted to Trinidad, she questioned the viability of the deal and suggested that the deal may not be as beneficial as it appears, adding that T&T’s economy could collapse without Venezuela’s gas.
Earlier this month, Attorney General John Jeremie announced the granting of a new OFAC license, though the financial details of the deal remain unclear.
