UWI Mourns Passing of Esteemed Deputy Principal Dr. Tomlin Paul

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus is mourning the loss of Dr. Tomlin Paul, Deputy Principal and distinguished physician, medical educator, and academic leader.

Dr. Paul, who passed away on March 12, 2026, dedicated more than three decades to advancing medical education, student success, and institutional development in the Caribbean.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles described Dr. Paul as “humane, collegial, and decent to the core,” while Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Densil A. Williams praised his tireless work championing student achievement and academic excellence.

During his tenure, Dr. Paul served in numerous leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, receiving accolades such as the ASPIRE-to-Excellence Award in Medical Education for Social Accountability and the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.

He also contributed globally through the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda.

Renowned for his mentorship, scholarship, and commitment to social accountability, Dr. Paul leaves behind a lasting legacy in Caribbean and international medical education.
