Students and teachers from a Cedros school have toured the US Navy destroyer the USS Gravely.

The US Embassy Trinidad and Tobago said 35 students and 15 teachers from the Lochmaben Roman Catholic School received an exclusive tour of the warship by the Gravely’s sailors and leadership on Monday.

The US has a longstanding partnership with Trinidad and Tobago, with side by side training between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) to strengthen regional security cooperation.

A media release from the Embassy stated that US Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) had recently completed infrastructure upgrades and made donations to the school.

“U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Sailors, or Navy Seabees as they are commonly called, completed critical infrastructure upgrades in August 2025 at the school during Operation Continuing Promise and the USNS Comfort (T-AH-20) visit to Trinidad and Tobago,” the media release stated.

“The Seabees’ work on the school included structural repairs to the school building, and water, sewage system, and electrical system improvements.”

U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Jenifer Neidhart de Ortiz said the tour “exemplifies the deep ties between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago

School principal Beverly Findley said the tour was a “once-in-a0lifetime opportunity and said she was grateful for the “remarkable educational opportunities, vital assistance, learning materials, equipment, and technological resources.”

The US Embassy said the USS Gravely’s visit is the latest of other USSOUTHCOM engagements in Trinidad and Tobago in 2025.

It listed the USNS Comfort’s medical and humanitarian mission in August, and the Tradewinds exercise, co hosted with the TTDF, in April and May.
