US$2.5 million ransom demand for Monos Island couple

A ransom demand of US$2.5 million has been made for the safe return of a Monos Island couple, who were reported missing on Saturday night.

According to a T&T Express report, the victims are 70-year-old Derrick Tardieu and his 47-year-old wife, Claribel, who operate a boatyard in Chaguaramas.

Police reported that a relative received a messaged around 9:44PM, a recording of Tardieu’s voice stating, “Dey have meh and want $2.5 million US for meh release.”

The victim’s son told authorities he immediately went to the couple’s home but found it ransacked, with no sign of his parents and calls to his father’s phone went unanswered.

An investigation is underway as authorities continue to search for the missing couple.
