The U.S. Embassy has reaffirmed that all American visa decisions—whether approvals, denials, or revocations—are made solely by the United States, without any involvement from foreign governments.
The clarification follows reports that Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander had sought U.S. assistance to act against U.S.-based social media personalities accused of spreading fear and misinformation about Trinidad and Tobago.
The Embassy stressed that visas are not revoked for exercising free expression, calling it a core American value.
However, it noted that the U.S. does revoke or deny visas when criminal activity is involved.
